Fun THings to do in the White Mountains in Spring

March…some people call it “Mud Season”. Some call it “Spring Skiing”! The days get warmer, the afternoons longer. The crowds thin out and there is more snow. I’ve heard it called “March Gladness” Luckily, the White Mountains offer no shortage of ways to get the most out of spring.

Due largely to its high elevation, Wildcat Mountain is a great White Mountain destination for spring skiing. Its location at the top of Pinkham Notch means it gets more snow than other nearby resorts, allowing it to stay open late into the spring.

Bretton Woods, NH’s largest ski area, also gets mounds of snow each year. And while you will have to pay for a lift ticket, the breathtaking view of Mount Washington is free!

Black Mountain in Jackson is offering a $30 lift ticket on March 9 & 16. And on March 18, Attitash hosts the Red Parka Challenge Race Cup — the longest-running dual giant slalom race in the nation. The race also benefits the Eastern Slope Ski Club, a non profit that provides skiing and snowboarding opportunities to local elementary children in MWV.

The next day, March 19, head over to Great Glen Trails in Pinkham Notch to cheer on the participants at the Tuckerman Inferno Pentathlon, where up to 600 athletes will compete for a $1000 cash prize and the chance to become the next Tuckerman or Tuckerwoman champion.
